Liverpool's 18-year-old left-back Jack Robinson has spoken of his joy at penning a new long-term deal at Anfield.

The promising defender, who has made five senior appearances having become the youngest ever player to represent the club after coming on as a substitute against Hull on the final day of the 2009-10 season, has seen first-team chances limited following the arrival of Jose Enrique this summer, but was eager to sign a new deal.

"I'm delighted," he told the club's official website.

"I was going for my lunch and I saw Damien [Comolli] on my way through. He pulled me to one side and said the club wanted to offer me a new contract.

"There was no doubt in my mind, I was just so excited the club were offering me a contract.

"I've just got to keep working hard in training. I can't just sit back on this contract. I've got to keep improving and showing people what I'm about."

Liverpool midfielder Charlie Adam followed up the announcement by taking to social networking website Twitter, saying: "Good too see Liverpool signed up another young player in Jack Robinson – one for the future."
